PLATELET RICH PLASMA (PRP) THERAPY FOR JOINT PAIN

Dr. David Hogarty is now offering platelet rich plasma therapy (PRP) as a treatment for multiple conditions of the joints.  PRP is concentrated from your own blood and contains healing factors such as white blood cells and bioactive proteins called growth factors and stem cell markers.  These cells are vital for tissue regeneration and repair.  With advanced techniques available in our office, we are able to concentrate these regenerative healing cells in a simple outpatient setting.

There are no risks you  because we are using your own blood, which will be obtained by a trained professional here in our office.  It takes approximately 30 minutes to obtain the sample.  Then, Dr. Hogarty will utilize an ultrasound procedure to guide the injection of PRP into the affected joint.

Examples of conditions that can be treated with PRP include knee and hip osteoarthritis, rotator cuff problems, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis (heel spur) as well as some types of low back pain.  Muscles strains and chronic injury due to sports injuries can also be treated.

PRP has advantages over steroid injections and surgery in that it is longer lasting and is a natural healing modality which cooperates with your own body’s healing power.  There is minimal to no down time from PRP as opposed to surgery.
